The UK preset adds VAT registration number labels, VAT per line and a VAT summary. Use Notes for the tax point and the VAT total in sterling when invoicing in another currency.

Simplified VAT invoices

For a supply of £250 or less including VAT, HMRC allows a simplified invoice showing your name, address and VAT registration number, the time of supply, a description, and for each VAT rate the total including VAT and the rate charged. Exempt supplies must not be included. Above £250, issue a full or modified VAT invoice if your customer asks for one. [1]

Tips for UK invoices

  • You can start your numbering at any number, as long as the series then runs in sequence. [2]
  • Amounts can be in any currency, but the total VAT must be shown in sterling. [1]
  • Only VAT-registered businesses may show VAT on an invoice. If you are not registered, choose the generic preset and leave tax at 0%.
